Synopsis

James Morgan: outlaw in a ruthless biker club, the Bastard Legion. Willing to do whatever he must to claw his way to the top of the club’s hierarchy.

Two things stand in the way of his ambitions: his heroin-addicted brother and his bisexuality. In Morgan’s world, his attraction to men is a death sentence, and he has no desire to pursue it… until he tangles with Luc Sinclair.

Luc Sinclair: fellow Bastard Legion biker. Tattoo artist. Rebel who wants out of a club he’s grown to despise.

Luc has a sister he’s protecting from a Legion ex-boyfriend. Saving her makes him a target. Morgan intervenes, and all bets are off. The sex is as fierce and passionate as it is dangerous. But when Morgan’s junkie brother learns of the relationship, he sees a way to advance in the Legion and take out a brother he hates. Their three worlds collide—one is left for dead, another fighting for life, and the bond between them broken.

In a dark and violent world where it’s every man for himself, finding their way back to each other and the only truth they’ve ever found will be a long, hard fight.

Jane’s Review

This is a gritty biker club story that had me gripped from the outset, but became magnetic about a third of the way in. I stayed up until I finished it! Both main characters Morgan and Luc are part of the Bastard Legion biker club. Morgan is rising through the ranks and a ruthless character but he’s shrewd. He’s bought his brother Steve’s share of their father’s garage and he uses that legitimate business to clean up some biker funds as well as earning legit bucks. His brother is a heroin addict as is his partner Sarah. There is no love lost between the brothers, but Morgan worries about Nick, his nephew. Nick’s story is told in the first City to City Novella, Happy Birthday. You don't need to read it beforehand, and I actually think it makes more sense if you read it after this.

Luc, isn't really cut out as a motorcycle club member and has managed to slip into relative anonymity in the club, spending his days as a tattoo artist. He’s lean and pretty with a wicked, clever mouth and quick wit. He’s protecting his sister from one of the thuggish club members and is attacked as a result. Morgan comes to his rescue and from there Luc pushes for something to happen; he's, blunt, direct and attracted to rough and edgy, and older, closeted Morgan is powerless to resist. The relationship that develops starts bristly, gritty and challenging, but beneath both rough exteriors lies something more, it's not hearts and flowers but it is tender. I loved seeing them fall for each other and I was all in with both characters at this point.

Luc wants out of the club, but feels like money is more important to Morgan and that's why he’ll stay in and not try to leave. After Luc is attacked a second time, and Morgan realises the betrayals that have led to it, he sacrifices everything, making a pact with the devil so that Luc can leave. At this point I was vibrating with a whirl of emotions. The villains in this story, and there are many, had me bursting with anger. The angst was ratcheted up so much I felt like I’d been sucker punched. I love a book that can do this to me. I’ve never felt so whiplashed with both loving and hating a character all at the same time. I hated all of the parents in this book, but I did love Kade and Natalie, Luc’s siblings. A special mention must be given to Garioch, head of the Bastard Legion who is an outright total bastard. I blame him for so much!

This book runs the gamut of friends to lovers , lovers to enemies and back again. Luc and Morgan have a twisted, magnetic, dark romance, laced with too many emotions that neither man can truly verbalise or express and I just loved it, really loved it and I can't wait to read the next in this series.
