Synopsis

Dante Rivers just lost the rodeo by two one hundredths of a point: he’s frustrated as hell, needs to get laid, and he knows just where to go. That night he meets Ryan Abbott and catches his eye—Ryan watched the rodeo and is still riding high on the rush. The chemistry between them ignites, but Dante, unable to deal with complications, leaves while Ryan’s asleep.
Ryan figures he’ll never see Dante again, but they’re fatefully reunited when Dante’s grandfather, Hy, hires Ryan to help straighten out some old investments. The attraction between Ryan and Dante still sizzles. Sex slowly turns to more, but obstacles abound: Hy’s failing health, Dante’s homophobic sponsor, an attack on Ryan, and Dante’s own struggle with his identity. Any one thing would be enough to separate them permanently… unless they both decide to hang on for the wild ride.
Listening Time: 6 hrs., 55 min.

Sue’s Review

Dante is a closeted bull rider striving to achieve a win in a rodeo championship before he retires. He also supports his ageing grandfather, Hy, and helps out on his ranch. Ryan is a financial adviser. He’s a fan of rodeo and the hot, sexy cowboys who participate in the events. Both men are strong characters and instantly attracted to each other. They hook up after a rodeo event and later meet again when Ryan offers Dante’s grandfather some financial advice.

Of course, nothing is as easy as all that sounds. There’s some drama and angst along the way. The two hot men start a secret relationship and Ryan supports Dante when his sexuality is made public and he has to deal with his homophobic sponsors and fans. Dante cares for Ryan when he needs it in return.

Ryan also takes control of their sexual encounters and provides Dante with the domination he didn’t know he needed. The light D/s scenes are important to their relationship and the chemistry between these guys works well. The story is not all about sex, though. The romance develops as the two men get to know each other and share their feelings. The main characters, as well as the secondary characters, are portrayed well, especially Hy and Jacky. There are several emotional scenes that I really enjoyed. The rodeo scenes are exciting and clearly depicted. The story moves swiftly, although there are a couple of scenes that were superfluous to the overall plot. I noticed a couple of continuity issues and there are a few plot points that were not followed through, but overall, that didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the story. My main gripe was that I thought Hy would have discussed the future of the ranch with Dante and not have acted without his grandson’s knowledge.

A recommended story. I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It’s a sweet yet emotional romance involving some drama and a little angst. I’m glad Dante, Ryan, and Jacky feature in the next story in the series.

NARRATION

John Solo narrated this story superbly. He not only captured the essence of the romance, the emotions, and the characters, he created voices to match their personalities. As usual, his pace was spot on and his narration made it easy to follow. Very enjoyable.
